Mission
“Blind Octopus” aims to break the silence surrounding sibling incest, a serious yet rarely discussed issue. Filmmaker Anita Killi’s goal is to create a multilayered story that resonates with both children and adults, fostering open conversations about challenging topics like pleasure, sexuality, and inadequate boundaries in childhood. By presenting a relatable family and a nuanced portrayal of the perpetrator, the film seeks to evoke empathy and encourage dialogue about the complexities of abuse, guilt, and recovery, ultimately contributing to greater awareness and understanding.
About the film
“Blind Octopus” is a cut-out animated short film, freely adapted from the 2013 book The Octopus by Gro Dahle and Svein Nyhus. Directed by a filmmaker with a history of tackling difficult themes, as seen in Angry Man (2009) and Mother Didn’t Know (2020), the film employs animation to address its subject matter sensitively. While specific details on runtime and technical processes are not provided, the cut-out animation style suggests a visually distinct approach, crafted to engage audiences across age groups with its layered storytelling.
