Green Robbers
By Helene Magnhild Kjeldsen
Synopsis
In Green Robbers, ancient earthbound beings establish a hidden colony on Bjørnøya, an Arctic island. From this refuge, they observe with dismay the devastation of landscapes, extinction of species, and expansion of oil industry activities.

Mission
Green Robbers confronts viewers with the disconnect between environmental promises and ecological reality. Its mission is to awaken awareness of destruction caused by modern industry—particularly oil—on fragile ecosystems, and expose political inaction hidden behind green rhetoric.
Through symbolic storytelling, the film invites audiences into a world where nature bears witness: ancient beings observe the unraveling of ecosystems they've safeguarded for millennia. By blending animation, documentary footage, and experimental techniques, Green Robbers creates an immersive experience that bypasses intellectual defenses to speak directly to the subconscious.
The film employs metaphor and surrealism to evoke empathy for nature and our own intuitive recognition of ecological harm. Its ultimate goal is to transform perspectives and inspire a more protective connection with Earth.
About the film
Green Robbers is a poetic fable blending puppet animation with natural imagery to create a mythological world inhabited by nature spirits. Set on Bjørnøya, an Arctic island, it follows an underground clan monitoring environmental degradation while awaiting the promised "green transition" from political leaders.
This hybrid production combines puppet animation, documentary footage, and atmospheric storytelling to explore humanity's fractured relationship with nature, with Norway's oil industry as a central figure. The film features shamanistic characters inspired by primitive art who observe ecosystem collapse from their subterranean colony where discarded human technologies help document environmental realities.
A distinctive soundscape of meditative rhythms and fragmented voices supports the earth-toned visual style, emphasizing the gap between political rhetoric and ecological truth. Green Robbers challenges viewers to reconsider industrial progress and reconnect with the Earth's ancient rhythms.
