Øystein Gutu is a user experience consultant with more than two decades of experience in the internet industry. He is skilled in workshop facilitation, user stories, wireframing, user experience, graphics and logo design. He holds a Master’s degree in Industrial and Product Design from Institutt for industridesign.

As Digitalisation Adviser at Trollfilm Animation Farm, Øystein helps the studio use new technology where it supports the craft, without replacing it. Together with Trollfilm he is developing From Pen to Movie, a production tool now in open beta. It connects the programmes an animation team already uses – from Photoshop and Storyboard Pro to Dragonframe, Premiere and DaVinci Resolve – into one continuous workflow from script and storyboard to animatic, shooting and editing.

The tool is designed with handcrafted animation in mind. It keeps track of every scene, shot, layer and version, and prints scale templates for cut-out puppets, with a QR code on each part. It also delivers exposure sheets and instructions straight to the animator in Dragonframe, and never overwrites finished work. From Pen to Movie works fully without AI.

Trollfilm’s feature film Christmas Survivors is the first major production to be built on the workflow, so the craft and the tool are developed side by side.
