MORE INFO:
Idun Isdrake is a game designer, film director and artist based in Norway, with a background in archaeology and 20 years experience in the game and film industries. The current focus of their work is the rapid melting of ice in the Arctic, and the focus of their research concerns silenced voices and harmful biases in datasets used for developing generative AI systems.
Art, science, narrative and technology have always been intertwined in Isdrakes practice. By highlighting ecocide and demystifying technologies like cyborg interfaces and artificial intelligence systems, they emphasise human responsibility and accountability in the development of technologies and certain narratives. Equity, diversity, inclusion and accessibility are important aspects of Isdrakes work. They have founded and supported many initiatives for equity in the game, tech and innovation industries, and worked with social innovation through projects like their game, film and make lab The Collaboratory. In addition to their own work with game innovation, they worked in the AAA game industry, building prototypes focused on future gaming experiences, AR/VR/XR, deep learning (AI), virtual humans, and generated assets. Isdrake has also worked in the public sector, as a creative director of conferences, stage shows and festivals, as an expert for the EU funding programs for games and film, and served on advisory boards and jurys for start-ups, games and innovation competitions. Isdrake is a member of a couple of art collectives, like the London-based body>data>space collective of pioneers in digital arts, and the Solar Media Collective in Turtle Island/Canada, focusing on solarities and energy justice. In 2025 they finalise a blacksmith program at Hjerleid craft school in Dovre, Norway and join Trollfilm as a collaborator and artist in residence.
