MorE INFO:
Randall Meyers (born 1955, USA) is an American composer, director and producer who has lived and worked in Europe since 1970. He divides his time between Oslo, Munich and Spoleto, Italy, and is one of the most versatile film composers active in Scandinavia over the past four decades.
Meyers trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London and at the Hochschule für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Vienna. His music spans solo and chamber works, large-scale orchestral pieces, ballet and opera, alongside scores for over 80 films and television productions. His distinctive compositional voice draws on a deep engagement with musical traditions from across Europe, Asia and the Middle East.
Among his most celebrated works is The King Who Wanted More Than a Crown — a symphony for children combining animation, a small symphony orchestra and a live actor, produced and directed by Meyers through his production company Floating World Films AS. The film received the First Prize at the Berlinale Kinderfilmfest in 2000, and was co-directed with Anita Killi.
His film credits include Sofies verden (Sophie's World), Insomnia, The Telegraphist and Herman, as well as contributions to international productions including The English Patient and Prozac Nation. He is also the author of the widely used textbook Film Music — Fundamentals of the Language, and serves as Artistic Director of Solaris Records.
Meyers has lectured and taught at institutions across Scandinavia and Italy, including the University of Oslo, the Norwegian Film School and the Westerdals School of Film and TV.
